Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

The art of defending yourself

Brazilian Jiu-jitsu

It is a martial art, combat sport, and self-defense system derived from Judo and Jiu-Jitsu techniques imported from Japan to Brazil by Mitsuyo Maeda around 1920 and later developed by the Gracie family.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu promotes the concept that a person can defend himself against a heavier, stronger opponent by using appropriate techniques, specifically by taking the fight to the ground and applying chokehold, joint lock or muscle compression techniques.

Voluntary strikes (kicks, punches, elbows, heads and knees) are prohibited in official practice.

It is a young and constantly evolving martial art that draws its quintessence from technique, timing and leverage rather than brute force.

It is traditionally practiced with a keikogi, often called kimono, but whose particularity is to be more tightened at the level of the sleeves and the pants in order to make more difficult their seizure.

Jiu-Jitsu can be practiced by everyone.
